“Black & Reflective” is a portrait series that begins first by listening; a process to ensure the emerging paintings are an honest attempt to capture each subject and document deepening realizations on identity. The final body of work will portray 5 people with a portrait and landscape painting; the portrait as an act of recognition and the landscape to explore the individual ways each navigates their environment.
