past & Present

Commissioned by Canderel Residential to embody “The Spirit of St Clair” and compliment their hording promotions for upcoming development “St.Clair Village”.

MRL™ (Liang Wang, David “Nuff”, and Leone McComas) created a design that blends past with the present; a new TTC streetcar arrives in a vintage scene of St. Clair Station – inspired by a 1961 photo captured by Eric Trussler. The final result reflects the vibrant past, evolving present, and promising future within this community along St. Clair Avenue West.

design

This mural nods to the history of Saint-Clair Village and Corsa Italia, brings vibrant patterns in company colours inspired by Portuguese tiles, and dynamic typography retrofitted to evoke vintage lettering.

After the first design was complete, Canderel commissioned two additional murals. We decided to expand the story line to include generations meeting over shared interests, and cultures celebrating in true Toronto street festival fashion.

MRL™

“Mural Team” is the joint creative forces of Liang Wang, David “Nuff”, and Leone McComas who met during their AKIN Collective residency at MOCA Toronto. Combining our abilities as artists and designers, our tongue-in-cheek name nods to the collaborative efforts inherent to mural projects and capacity for commercial work.
